09 May 2017 MOSCOW — Russians who visited a recent language fair in Moscow showed keen interest in going to the Philippines to study English as a second language, according to Philippine Ambassador to Russia Carlos D. Sorreta.

On April 15-16, three Philippine English language schools and the Department of Tourism (DoT) participated in the annual Begin Lingua Fair at the Radisson Slavyanskaya Hotel in Moscow. The language fair was organized by the Begin Group which runs over 20 education fairs in Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Ukraine and India.

The Philippine schools represented at the fair were IDEA English Academy (Cebu), QQ English (Cebu) and TIMES-SLC (Subic).  The DoT team at the fair was led by Ms. Renee Marie N. Reyes (Head, ESL-Market Development Group) and composed of Atty. Jennifer Olba (Legal Division), Ms. Ma. Dexaivy Gillesania (Office of the Secretary) and Ms. Marissa A. Masangkay (Member, ESL-Market Development Group).

“The Philippines has a proven track record when it comes to teaching English as a second language.  Many Russians are increasingly being made aware of this and are showing a keen interest in coming to our country to learn English,” Ambassador Sorreta said.

The ambassador added that “the Philippines is very competitive and has top quality teachers and great facilities. Many Russians have already learned English in the Philippines. We will continue to aggressively promote our schools, develop partnerships with education agents and tourism agents in Russia.”

“We are very grateful to the Department of Tourism for devoting its time and resources to promoting the Philippines as a center of learning when it comes to English as a second language.  The demand for this type of service is very high in Russia and we are very confident that through these efforts we will be able to tap this market,” Ambassador Sorreta concluded.
