Remains of Filipino Fire Victim Returns Home

06 June 2017 MOSCOW – The Philippine Embassy and friends of a Filipina worker who died in a fire gathered at a mortuary in Moscow to bid her a final farewell. 

The female OFW died on May 25 from injuries sustained when the building where she and three other female OFWs were renting an apartment caught fire in the evening of May 19. According to the victim’s roommates, they were uninjured as they had run to the window while the victim sought to exit through the door of their unit where she was met by flames and intense heat. The victim’s roommates also tried their best to save her.

The victim was immediately brought to the hospital and placed in the burns section of the intensive care unit. 90% of the victim’s body was severely burned and her entire respiratory system suffered serious injury.

The cause of the fire is under investigation and the Philippine Embassy is in touch with Russian authorities and awaiting results. 

The Philippine Embassy was in direct contact with the victim’s relatives and kept them updated throughout. Ambassador Sorreta also spoke to the victim’s relatives to convey his deepest sympathies.

The Embassy also sent the personal effects as well as remaining salary of the victim to her relatives in the Philippines. END.
