20 July 2017 MOSCOW – Diplomatic missions of ASEAN member countries in Russia gear up preparations for the commemorative activities of ASEAN’s golden anniversary on August 08 after the meeting of ASEAN Moscow Committee (AMC) on July 14.
To highlight ASEAN’s achievements and raise its profile in Russia, the AMC is organizing a number of activities, including a diplomatic reception on 8 August, an essay writing competition open to Russian and ASEAN students, luncheon with high-level Russian officials, and engagement with the local press.
The essay writing competition will be co-organized with the ASEAN Centre of the Moscow State Institute of International Relations. It will be launched on August 08 during the diplomatic reception to be held at the Philippine Embassy.
“The Philippines’ chairmanship of the AMC and ASEAN itself comes at a most auspicious time. ASEAN is celebrating fifty (50) years of fruitful cooperation that contributed significantly to regional peace and stability. This is something we can be truly proud of”, Ambassador Carlos D. Sorreta stressed.
Earlier this year, the AMC organized the ASEAN Friendly Bowling Competition as part of its yearlong celebration of ASEAN’s anniversary. The Defense Attachés and Political Officers of ASEAN Embassies likewise hosted a luncheon for the members of the Moscow Association of Military Attachés on 31 March 2017. This was to promote ASEAN’s role as a driving force in Asia Pacificsecurity and defense mechanisms.
